About us

Two people, one notebook, and a lot of trains.

We are Kecheng and Shania. Since 2017, we’ve been making our way around the world slowly — a few weeks here, a country there, with one backpack each and rarely much of a plan. The Wundering Lab is where we keep the things worth remembering: the cool stories, the unexpected discoveries, the notes we scribble on the way home, and the things we wish someone had told us before we left.

The two of us

Kecheng

Writes the practical bits

Plans the route, keeps the spreadsheet, and is the reason we always have a paper timetable in the bag. Writes the parts of a story you'd screenshot before a trip.

Always packs
A second pair of socks
Never leaves without
The paper timetable
Best stretch of track
Kiso Valley, first snow

Shania

Takes most of the photographs

Shoots one camera, one lens, and refuses to crop. Writes the parts of a story you'd read after — the notes on the way home about what a place was actually like.

Always packs
Three rolls too many
Never leaves without
A window seat
Best stretch of track
The Svaneti road, Georgia

How we travel

Four rules we have kept since the first trip.

  1. 01

    Slowly

A few weeks at a time, one region, not a country. We would rather know three towns than tick off ten.

  2. 02

    By rail where we can

Trains are where the notes get written. Also where most of the photographs of the other person asleep come from.

  3. 03

    One camera each

The only rule we never break. It keeps the bag light and it keeps us looking at things instead of screens.

  4. 04

    Written on the way home

Nothing goes up from the road. A story is written once the trip has settled, so it says what mattered, not what happened.

Tell us where you're going. We probably have a note about it.

Questions about a route, a correction, or just a hello — we answer everything, slowly, in the order it arrives.
